Proper Care
Proper Care | Perfect Fit | Lacing
- Your new moccasins are made primarily of a totally natural product. Like your own skin, this surface deserves proper and frequent cleaning and moisturizing. Quality treatment will keep these surfaces looking and feeling good for many years to come.
- It is important to note that from the very first time you wear or treat your moccasins, you will change their look. Don't let the likelihood of a slight change in color prevent you from taking the best care of the leather.
- We recommend that you saddle soap your moccasins immediately, and repeat the soaping a couple of extra times before wearing them. This treatment will probably darken the leather slightly but it also makes it easier to keep your moccasins free from stains and dirt in the future. Follow with a treatment of mink oil or a good quality leather lotion.
- Oil your moccasins as needed, to prevent the leather from becoming dry.
- Oil your laces frequently to keep them pliable (perhaps once a month).
- Wash muddy or dusty moccasins with warm water, then saddle soap them while they are still wet and let them air dry.
- Wash the moccasins at least once a year. Remove laces and wools and wash in the washing machine on a gentle cycle. Use cold water and a non-detergent soap.
- DO NOT PUT MOCCASINS IN THE DRYER!!!
- While still damp, oil the moccasins lightly. Dry in a warm dry place, not in direct sunlight.
- If your boot color needs sprucing up you can apply a good cream-base shoe
polish, such as Meltonian. Do not use wax-based polishes.
